Liuyao: a question-based reading of change
Liuyao, or six-line divination, begins with a question and a moment of casting. Its hexagram language describes movement, relationships and changing conditions around that question.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Liuyao is most responsible when it helps you clarify the question and the next observable step. It should not replace judgment or promise an outcome.
01
What it observes
A primary hexagram, changing lines and a relating hexagram create a symbolic sequence. Traditional readings compare the roles and movement within the six lines.
02
How to read it
Ask one concrete question, record the time and keep the situation specific. Read the structure as a snapshot of conditions, then compare it with what actually changes.
03
How Mingora uses it
Mingora explains the generated hexagram in plain language and returns the reading to the user's question. The output is a prompt for clarity, not a command or a promise.
KEY CONCEPTS
Six lines
The changing lines form the basic visual structure of a hexagram.
Changing line
A line that introduces movement or a different emphasis.
Question
The quality of the question determines how useful the reflection can be.
QUESTIONS TO CARRY
- What exactly am I asking, in one sentence?
- Which condition can I observe rather than assume?
- What is the smallest responsible next step?
